Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower Enhances Worksite Safety Measures
The Ministry of Manpower in Singapore has announced an enhancement in worksite safety regulations, effective from June 1. To further strengthen safety management and reduce workplace accidents, the maximum fine for violating worksite safety regulations will be increased from SGD 20,000 to SGD 50,000. Additionally, for construction projects with a contract value of SGD 5 million and above, the installation of video surveillance systems will be mandated.
The Ministry emphasized that the increase in fines aims to strengthen accountability for construction companies, especially for their senior leadership responsible for fostering a safe workplace culture. Despite improvements in worksite safety in 2023, the construction industry remains one with a high incidence of fatalities and severe injuries. Therefore, the introduction of video surveillance systems is expected to deter unsafe behaviors in high-risk work areas.
